Michigan Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Lawyers
Helping Eliminate or Reduce Your Unsecured Debts
Many clients come to us struggling with medical bills, credit card debt, judgments, personal loans and repossession deficiencies. They have either lost their means to pay on these debts or the high interest charges make it impossible to make in-roads to reducing the debts. While these unsecured debts have less priority than secured debts like homes and vehicles, credit card debt and medical bills may be fully discharged under Chapter 7, or restructured along with similar debts and paid off under far more favorable terms in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
With offices in Southfield, Dearborn, Warren and Flint, Acclaim Legal Services is a bankruptcy law firm providing Michigan families with debt relief solutions. We have helped over 7,000 people find debt relief solutions that make sense for their situation. We can help you too.

Chapter 7: What Happens to Credit Card and Other Debt?
For many people who cannot afford to pay off their credit cards, huge medical bills and other debts, Chapter 7 can provide a "fresh start." Filing Chapter 7 immediately stops harassment by credit card companies and all other collection agencies, including continuing or beginning wage garnishments.
While your credit card and health care debts can be fully discharged through Chapter 7 bankruptcy, there can be exceptions and you should consult with our attorneys to discuss requirements and other considerations.
Chapter 13: Reducing Medical Bills and Other Debt
Under Chapter 13, all unsecured debts such as credit cards, medical bills, personal loans, etc, are grouped together for repayment. The proposed repayment plan determines how much personal income you have available to pay towards these debt. These creditors are only paid what you can reasonable afford after paying secured debt obligations, such as a mortgage or vehicle payment, as well as your ongoing monthly living expenses. All unsecured debts are deferred until you are caught up on any back payments or arrearages on secured debts. All payments to unsecured creditors go straight to principal and all interest rates are reduced to 0%. Depending on your budget and disposable income, you may only be paying back a fraction of the total debt you owe. The plan only requires that you make your best effort for repayment over a 36 - 60 month time period. At the end of the repayment period, remaining balances can be discharged or legally eliminated.
Chapter 13 repayment plans are systematic and specific to your financial situation. When you come in for a free initial consultation, our skilled bankruptcy attorneys will review your budget options using current software tools. We also assist with tax concerns and help you rebuild credit after bankruptcy.
